Redundancy and Disaster Recovery
Cipher is typically deployed on 2 servers, configured
with raid1 disk arrays. One machine is dedicated to serving your
production environment, while the other server can be configured
to provide label printing services to all of your ancillary Oracle
instances. The production server is configured to take a snapshot
backup of the production environment at user-specified intervals.
These backups are sent to the second Cipher server where they are
automatically uploaded, creating a clone of your production instance.
In the event of catastrophic hardware failure, the backup instance
can be activated immediately, restoring mission-critical print
functions. The Cipher machines can be located in different data
centers, protecting printing services from location-based network
outages and weather related downtime.
