Control Printers
Skipjack recognizes that there is often a disconnect
in the trouble-shooting and help desk processes for label printing
issues. While system administration is typically responsible for
printer setup and administration, the applications technical team
generally oversees label generation. If you’re having problems
resolving printing issues, it’s
often necessary for both groups to get involved, which may delay
the resolution of label printing problems.
This frequently occurring situation inspired Skipjack to design
a label printing solution that gives the Cipher user complete control
of their printing environment – including printer creation
and management. We leverage the robust Common Unix Printing System
(CUPS) as the core of our print engine, deployed on Cipher’s
stand alone hardware. Printer definitions are specific to Cipher,
and our web console allows users to create printers, start and stop
them, cancel print jobs, or redirect print jobs to other printers.
There’s no need to involve a system administrator to troubleshoot
a Cipher printing issue.
